solo exhibition by Paulo Camillo Penna

Gravura Brasileira Art Gallery

May 14 - July 8, 2022

In his third solo show at the Gravura Brasileira gallery, artist Paulo Camillo Penna brings together around 40 works in photography, drawing, woodcut and painting carried out in the years 2021 and 2022.

Penna wanders the streets of Sao Paulo, as well as he cuts the wood plate with his gouge, slowly drags his brush or scratches the pencil on a sheet of paper. Just as blood circulates through the body, the artist wanders through the city and in these walks he reflects on the landscape, its substance and the layers that make up its rich and tumultuous history.

The cut in the wood brings light to the image. Searching for Itororo stream, covered, channeled and disappeared over decades of human domination over the landscape, Penna rediscovers the anatomy of the body, the cracks that open between the buildings and viaducts and the small points of light that appear in Sao Paulo cloudy and polluted sky.

Congratulations to Paulo Camillo Penna for being one of the recipients of the 2022 "Individual Support Grant" from the Gottlieb Foundation
